Foundations of Islamic Practice
Hadith-Sunnah refers to the sayings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, while Sunnah includes his actions and approvals, forming his complete way of life. Though slightly different, both are often used interchangeably as key sources of Islamic guidance. Initially preserved orally and later compiled in the 8th and 9th centuries, It was memorized and written down by the Prophet’s Companions and their students. These efforts helped preserve the Prophet’s teachings with great care and accuracy.
The Qur’an is the primary source of Islamic law, while Sunnah serves to explain and give context to its concise guidance. Muslims rely on Hadith-Sunnah for practical instructions on acts like prayer, charity, and pilgrimage. Without Hadith, many Qur’anic commands would lack clarity or detail. Thus, Hadith plays a vital role in shaping daily Muslim life and the application of Islamic jurisprudence.
